Last year our poetry students entered a competition entitled Creative Communication “A Celebration of Today’s Writer”. This contest was for students around the country who excelled in poetry to have the opportunity to see their work professionally published. In September, we found out that 12 of our students were going to be published in an anthology entitled A Celebration of Poets. It was so exciting to find out that our students had been selected from thousands of people across the country. In addition, those students who were published in the anthology had the chance to win a $50.00 savings bond by being selected as one of the top ten poets in the country. In early November, we were again surprised to find out that Amanda Conway, a senior at WCA had been one of the top ten poets selected to receive the $50.00 savings bond. She was the only student from Wisconsin to place in the contest. It is so exciting to see our creative writing program make a difference in a student’s life.
